What is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional Intelligence (EI) can be defined as a set of emotional and social skills that influence the way we perceive and express ourselves, develop and maintain social relationships, cope with challenges, and use emotional information in an effective and meaningful way.

Reliability and Validity

Reliability refers to the consistency or precision of scores (consistently measuring scores of EI)and validity refers to how effectively the EQ-i 2.0 measures emotional intelligence (how well does the EQ-i 2.0 do what it is supposed to do?) Users of this assessment can be confident that the scores are consistent and reliable and accurately measure emotional intelligence.

Why is it Important?

While emotional intelligence isn’t the sole predictor of human performance and development potential, it is proven to be a key indicator in these areas. What is coaching?

Coaching is the process of supporting an individual to make shifts in thinking to enable resolution of issues and situations, and to seize opportunities.  A coach listens, clarifies and asks questions so an individual is better able to think through an issue, situation or opportunity in order to meet their greatest potential.   Coaching incorporates an appreciative approach, grounded in what’s right, what’s working, what’s wanted and what’s needed to get there.

According to the International Coaching Federation (ICF), coaching brings many benefits, including fresh perspectives on personal challenges, enhanced decision-making skills, greater inter-personal effectiveness and increased confidence. Those who experience coaching can also expect improvement in productivity, satisfaction with life and work and realization of relevant goals.

Sherri Stephanson, President of Aldebaran Coaching and Consulting, provides customized workplace coaching and consulting.  She specializes in executive and leadership coaching to motivate clients and organizations to reach their full potential, one conversation at a time.
